The Loblaw class action settlement has been approved and here’s how you can get part of the $500 Million Settlement!

Since the class action settlement has now been approved, there will be a procedure set up to apply for a share of the $500 million settlement. Settlement amounts will depend on the number of applicants.

THE CLAIMS PROCESS IS NOW OPEN for eligible residents of Canada who purchased Packaged Bread for their personal use between 2001 and 2021, inclusive, to claim compensation from the national settlement reached with Loblaw Companies Limited, and George Weston (collectively, “Loblaw/Weston”) to settle their involvement in nationwide class action lawsuits related to alleged industry-wide price fixing of Packaged Bread.

  • A $500 million settlement in the bread price-fixing class action lawsuit against Loblaw Companies Limited and George Weston Limited has been approved.
  • The lawsuit alleged that manufacturers and retailers engaged in anticompetitive conduct with packaged bread pricing between 2001 and 2021, leading to overcharged shoppers.
  • The settlement includes a $404 million cash payment from Loblaw and Weston, as $96 million had already been paid through the Loblaw Card Program.
  • Residents of every Canadian province and territory except Quebec are automatically included in the Ontario settlement if they purchased packaged bread during the given timeframe.
  • Quebec has a separate class action, with a settlement approval hearing on June 16.
  • Eligible claimants can submit an online claim for compensation, but if they previously received the $25 Loblaw Card Program benefit, that amount will be deducted from their settlement payment.
  • Payments will be made via Interac e-transfer or cheque, with a minimum claim amount of $5 required for payout.
