CRA Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

In 2020, hackers accessed thousands of Government of Canada online accounts, including CRA “My Account” and other GCKey-accessed portals, using a method called credential stuffing.

The attackers primarily targeted these accounts to fraudulently apply for emergency benefits such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and the Canadian Emergency Student Benefit (CESB).

Over 47,000 Canadians had personal and financial information compromised, including social insurance numbers, addresses, and bank account details. To find out if you qualify, click the link HERE 

The Canadian government will pay $8.7 million to settle a class-action lawsuit for the 2020 CRA data breach, with eligible Canadians able to claim compensation based on the impact of the breach.

Eligible individuals should file claims through the official settlement portal managed by KPMG. Claimants must provide proof of identity and documentation of losses or time spent resolving fraudulent applications. Claiming accurately for “wasted time” and documented expenses can maximize financial recovery.
